Paddle out on a scenic 12-kilometre-long flat-water canoe trip from Muskrat Lake to Mud Lake along the Muskrat River, following a section of Samuel de Champlain’s 1615 expedition. Muskrat Lake is among Ontario’s top ice fishing destinations and is the home of the annual Cobden Ice Fishing Derby.

Cobden Farmers Market

Organized in 1991, the Cobden Farmers Market operates at the Cobden Fairgrounds with 30 regular-season members offering only homemade or homegrown products. Open from the May 24th weekend until Thanksgiving, each season concludes with the Taste of the Valley event, which expands to 189 vendors.

Whitewater O’Brien Winery

The region’s first and Ontario’s most northerly winery. Owned by certified sommeliers Jason and Lioutsia O’Brien, Whitewater O’Brien offers 10 wines, primarily made from grapes grown on their 6-acre vineyard planted with cold-hardy varieties.

Celebrate with us at the annual Cobden Fair every August at the Cobden Fairgrounds.

Come celebrate this annual event, featuring activities like the Senior Hall fair book entries, arena vendors, Meet the Keepers, and sheep and beef livestock shows. Enjoy miniature and heavy horse shows, a horse draw, entertainment throughout the grounds, and a kids’ midway. Highlights include agricultural education booths, a scavenger hunt, and the Saturday night Demolition Derby.

Fibre Festival

Join us in September for the Field to Fibre Festival at the Beachburg Agricultural Fairgrounds.

Celebrate fibre arts with interactive demonstrations, a vendor show, and an artisan craft market. Attendees can learn various fibre techniques, watch skilled artisans at work, and explore agricultural demonstrations like flax thrashing and fleece shearing.

Tour de Whitewater

Join us for a fantastic day of cycling and community at the Tour de Whitewater, taking place annually at the Westmeath & District Recreation Association!

Hosted by the Westmeath & District Recreation Association, the Tour de Whitewater attracts 400+ riders annually. It offers five rides for all skill levels, ranging from 10 km to 100 km. The event features three rest stations with snacks, a BBQ lunch, and local entertainment.

The 427 Lion Squadron Cenotaph

Stop by the Veterans Memorial Park to view the cenotaph while passing through the Region.

The 427 Lion Squadron was formed on November 7th, 1942, as the eighth of fifteen Royal Canadian Air Force Bomber Squadrons formed overseas. The Lion Squadron amassed an enormous amount of flying hours and won an impressive list of battle honours and individual distinctions.

The Squadron celebrated its 75th anniversary in September 2017. The unveiling of the cenotaph was at Veterans Memorial Park in Cobden.
